Spotted in Silicon Valley: The next generation law enforcement tool

This was taken at a local festival over the summer. It's not a Segway - it's the T3 Motion. T3's are especially good for busy events because the officer is raised above the crowd and therefore gains visibility. The siren and lights add to the coolness factor, but I couldn't see the donut holder.

Thanksgiving tablescapes with gourd birds

Fall squashes and gourds are still being sold at Safeway (at least where I am). You can't eat them (can you?), but you can use them for decorating your Thanksgiving table. Buy some 26 ga. floral stem wire and bend into a set of legs, wrap some brown floral tape around it, and plop the squash on. You'll have to make sure there's a base for the gourd to sit on, and part of the wire should poke into the gourd.

Natural History Museum in Fremont

Add this to the list of underappreciated museums in the Silicon Valley: the Children's Natural History Museum (Fremont).

It contains: The Gordon Hall, featuring Pleistocene fossils collected in the 1940's by San Leandro schoolteacher Wesley Gordon and his grade school "boy paleontologists". There's a replica of the workshop that Gordon and the boys used. There's also a Hall of Oddities, a nature hall, a minerals and rocks display, and a small planetarium. The museum is managed by the Math Science Nucleus, a non-profit educational and research organization composed of scientists, educators and community members.

On Dec. 13, several of the 'boys', now older gentlemen, will be back attending a fundraising for the museum
