Soft opening in Newark for BJ's Brewhouse
| When a restaurant gets ready to open its doors to the public it has a 'soft opening'. This happens after the interior is finalized, the staff has been hired, and the kitchen equipment has been installed. It's part of training for wait staff and kitchen staff. Meals are usually free, but from a limited subset of the real menu. BJ's Brewhouse in Newark had a soft opening on Nov 4. They will have their grand opening on Nov 10. BJ's operates stores 12 restaurants in Northern California , including restaurants in San Jose, Cupertino and San Mateo. The Newark one is a brewhouse - their beers are brewed offsite and then delivered to the restaurant. I am told some other locations are actual breweries, with the beer bering brewed in the restaurant. I was lucky enough to be invited to the soft opening event. Here are some photos of the meal.
